by Tiara Rea So October is possibly the coolest month ever created, not simply because it was my birthday month but because of Halloween-time! For us Southern Californians, that meant Disneyland was decked out for the celebration, Knott’s Berry Farm had a terrifying addition, and our Lunarpages office . Seriously, there are rats and skulls and snakes and graves everywhere. And I couldn’t be happier! Halloween is such a fun time, mostly because grown-ups get to play dress up. I love dressing in costumes and no, I’m not one of those girls who wears the low-cut, short-skirtted version of innocent fairy tale girls. I will be, of course, going as Severus Snape from Harry Potter. That’s right, I went there. Okay, I’m honestly no expert on Halloween stuff, considering I could get scared if you came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder at work (our HR Manager does it aaaall the time), but still, I thought it would be nice to share the 5 best parts of Halloween for me! I’m a huge fan of Alfred’s work (I call him Alfred, because obviously we were so close), and AMC and TMC tend to have marathons on around this time of year. In fact, I think I watched one a couple weekends ago. It was nice to get to see Rear Window again and I’m always a fan of Vertigo, The Birds, and even Psycho. Can’t get better than curling up on the couch and watching something that’s psychologically thrilling. #4 – Ghost Hunters: Live! Oh yes, I’m one of those fans who spends the night in front of the TV if I’m not going out, glued to Ghost Hunters marathons on Sci-Fi. One of the cool new traditions I’ve come to enjoy is the live Ghost Hunters episode, in which you get to attend a full investigation with Grant and Jason. It’s fun because it’s a long process but that leaves plenty of time to grab popcorn and candy and chill with friends. #3 – Candy!!!!!!!!! Bad news – I’m on a diet this Halloween. Okay, that’s honestly good news, except that I will definitely miss shoving so much chocolate in my face that I get a sugar rush and crawl the walls with adrenaline. But candy has always been a great part of the holiday for me. Especially candy corn. Ugh, that stuff always looks so good but tastes so bad… #2 – Disneyland’s Halloween Time As I mentioned, Disneyland kind of goes all out for the holiday, and as my first Disneyland experience was spent seeing Halloween Time several years ago, I appreciate it more than some. My special favorite activity at Disneyland is getting to ride the Haunted Mansion, which is decked out as The Nightmare Before Christmas – it’s worth seeing! Then again, I have an Annual Pass, so I can go whenever I want. ;) #1 – Dressing Up!!!!! Any excuse to wear my Hogwarts School Robe and dye my hair black and wave around my wand (haha, yes I do own a wand), honestly.
#5 – Hitchcock movies

Author: Mitch Keeler Now I can install WordPress with my eyes closed, but I might be a little rusty with some of the other content managers out there. So with that said, I thought I would try my hands at installing another content management system. Joomla is a popular choice to install among our users. I’ve never done it before now - so I thought why not share my installing experiences! Step #1 - Go Download Joomla The first step is a pretty easy one, you need to navigate yourself over to the to download yourself a fresh install. Once that has been done save the .zip file onto your desktop and unzip it using your favorite unzipping program. Now you should have the Joomla install unzipped and waiting for you inside another folder on your desktop.

Godaddy.com needs a redesign, some say. My personal pet peeve in my navigations through Godaddy is the feeling that I may have stumbled into another type of site, that is a niche of ill repute other than web hosting. Attractive women posing with “no thanks” at the bottom of page in small print. I’ll stop here. Anyway, if you have used Godaddy domain registration service or hosting products, you may have noticed the difficulty in to the final destination in checkout process. I’ve noticed some problems too. Here’s a pretty detailed criticism of GoDaddy’s 16-step checkout process which may be “brainless marketing at its finest.” A great article on the sheer stupidity of the GoDaddy checkout process. They truly are the 16 gates of hell. The author asks, “Why would a company do this to its customers?” What is your impression of the current Godaddy.com site design? |

How easy is multiple domain management with Lunarpages? If you have the Basic, Business or Windows plan it couldn’t get any easier. The Basic plan comes with 10 free add-on domains. The Business plan comes with 10 free add-on domains. The Windows plan comes with 1 free add-on domain. After your first free add-on domain on the Windows plan, additional add-on domains can be purchased for $2.50 per month. If you have a valid credit card on file, you can purchase additional addon domains online via our . Login with your cPanel or Plesk username (depending on the hosting account type) and password, then choose the Upgrades / Addons Menu. Or Email to enable more. Each domain will resolve to it’s own name and content like a separate web site. They do share the resources of the account with the primary domain. With the disk space and bandwidth limits Lunarpages gives you though, you should have some to spare. A couple of additional features worth mentioning would be that addon domains can have their own email addresses and can use any database on the account. When it comes to multiple domain name management, we have you covered from http all the way to your .com.

Author: Mitch Keeler Not all SEO experts are jerks, it is just really hard to find the ones that know what they are doing. Is Search Engine Optimization All a Scam? There are a lot of companies out there that would be happy to take your money and promise big results. While some of these are respectable businesses, others are the equivalent of those, “You just won a million dollars” e-mails you have been getting from that millionaire on his death bed that lives in an African country you can’t even pronounce. Here are just a handful of nuggets that you can do yourself to make your own web site more search engine friendly without the need of a third party service getting in the way of things. What does Google have to say about SEO? Keep in mind that Google themselves say no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google. Check out on their webmaster section for more information about how they feel about SEO practices. It isn’t all good and it isn’t all bad. You just have to learn how to do things on the right side of the search engines and keep yourself away from the fraud optimization providers Have any other easy SEO tips that both novices and experts could get something out of? Drop in a comment or send me an e-mail. Maybe I can get together a list of the best of the best for all of our advantages. Related Links: +
One of the big questions we get from day to day is how to get yourself listed in all the biggest and best search engines. You have the hosting, you have the site - everything is working perfectly. Why are you not showing up? The art of hacking around and tweaking your site for the benefit of search engines is what we call search engine optimization.

Author: Mitch Keeler When it comes to creating a logo or banner for your web site, many people go to outside sources because they thing this is all too hard for them to do. They are not artists or designers, so why do the hard work? Well you can save yourself some dough and perhaps learn a new trade if you decide to go it alone and design it yourself. Don’t be Afraid to Doodle Your Logo First Start sketching down designs on a piece of paper. You don’t have to be an artist. You just need to get some idea of what you want it to look like. After you are done, wad that up and throw it aways. (consider that your warm up) Then do around five more doodles and try to make each different. Find Inspiration in Your Name A lot of great logos have just text and some sort of shape around them - that is another thing to take into consideration too. Does your web site have something that people could relate to your brand? For example, with Lunarpages - you see lunar. With lunar you think of night time or the moon. With the moon you think of space. You see if I was designing a Lunarpages logo those would all be background ideas to try out. See how easy that was? Tools for Logo Design? You don’t need Photoshop to design an award winning logo. Just launch the best picture editor you have on your machine and play around with shapes and fonts. If your looking for a suggestion on a free tool to use - I would highly suggest picking up . It is the best free image editor out there today. Remember to keep it unique, because when people see your logo you want them to relate that to you and you alone. Too many people go with generic logos, and those are the ones that will most likely be forgotten. Try to do something different and I promise you will be happy with the final result.

Author: Mitch Keeler Before you can learn, you have to learn how to walk. With the world of Web 2.0 and innovation around every corner I think many around the Web are forgetting that there are still new folks coming in each and every day that don’t know their HTML from their CSS. I thought for those folks I would gather up some of my favorite “basic” resources for teaching yourself about web site design. W3Schools.com is a great place for any soon to be webmaster to get his or her feet wet. If your looking for a good place to learn the basics, I would suggest checking out both their and . Quality help and it is totally free. Webmonkey Another source that helped me out many moons ago was . I remember following along with their tutorials when even I was learning the basics of web design. The also have content for beginners all the way up to experts - so there should always be something new to learn for a while. Introduction to HTML It might be a little dated, but Dave Raggett’s is a good place to review too. He goes step by step through the very basic parts of web design and does so in a way that anybody could understand it. Now wait, that is not all. Here are a few more resources to browse:
